Writing Fantastika 3: Ways Through the Maze (Plot & Structure) with Kevan Manwaring
1 day course
Day and time: Saturday 11 – 5pm
Dates: 21st March 2020
Venue: Secular Hall, 75 Humberstone Gate, Leicester, LE1 1WB
Cost: £75, £70 conc.
With characters and setting in place, now it is time to hone your idea into a workable form – be it short story, novella, or novel. You will learn the elements of plotting and the many options of structure. Both plot and structure help to create the ‘internal organs’ and ‘exo-skeleton’ of your living, breathing creation – one that has narrative traction and leaps off the page.
These 3 linked day-schools from prize-winning author Kevan Manwaring explore what John Clute called ‘Fantastika’ (his umbrella term for science fiction, fantasy, weird fiction). From character creation and world-building to plotting and structuring, you will be guided through the key principles. Each session will comprise short writing activities, the giving and receiving of feedback, author clips and classic examples, and a chance to discuss your ideas and share work-in-progress. No experience necessary. All you need is pen, paper and imagination!
This course forms part one of a linked three – day unit. The units can be taken individually or booked together for a discount at £200 for all three courses to build on skills and knowledge.
Please note – to apply this discount, add each of the three courses to your basket and then add the following voucher code:
